last night I had so much FUN

Brad and I went to The Depot in SLC and danced for hours...

Really

we did.

It was a night for people our age to get together

and dance to the old in the day music...

I have to say it was interesting to see what everyone looked like.

Some (5%) still looked HOT,

the rest looked like what we should look like at our age.

Some of the outfits were so fun,

I wish I could dress like that

My life as I knew it will never be the same.

As a young newly married girl of 21 I chose not to go to school while Brad attended U of U.

Reason: I was a mom.

I wanted to devote all of my time to my family.
Almost 22 years later I am starting school.

I can't believe it has been that long!

interesting factoid: I used to shop and eat gelato at the Triad Center in the 80's when it was a mall.

Buying textbooks, that by the way hardly all fit into my huge backpack.

I have been thinking about Mother's Day so much this week

Usually I don't enjoy going to church on this holiday.

Too many grown children going off about how perfect their mom always is

Here's the deal.

I am not "that" perfect mom

My girls are not going to say:

*sappy sweet voice*

I never heard my mom raise her voice

My mom was always studying her scriptures and kneeling in prayer

We always had breakfast, lunch and dinner together

She was always ready with a positive twist on everything

and the list goes on...

What my daughters will most likely say is more along these lines:

My mom is loud, quite often

My mom reads her scriptures, not usually in the official "morning and bed Mormon standard"

My mom says lots of prayers alone in the car, and always puts peoples names on the Temple Prayer Roll

We always eat, sometimes it's on time, sometimes not. But we have fun

I can talk to my mom about literally everything. everything

Here's what I think, we are not the "typical Mormon"

family but I don't care

I love that my girls come to me with everything

Seriously, everything from church, school, boys and husbands

But we also

and love each other

I love being a Mother

It's the most rewarding thing in life that I could ever do

To be a 15 1/2 (hey that 1/2 is important! No mocking) girl today can't be an easy thing.

and BOYs to deal with.

Liz has the very best friend any gal could get.

She is amazing, truly.

When they are together they are like twins

finishing each others sentences and always

laughing.

They make each other better.

School on the other hand is not so easy.

Moving a kids in HS is not such a good idea.

Leaving her favorite school ever has proved to

be less than positive.

Now, thanks to "online" classes, she is only

required to be at the school for a 1/2 day

every other day.

The rest she is doing online.

Church is usually great, but not at this moment.

She would rather poke her eyes out than be there.

It's the girls...

She used to be one of those snobby, blonde

Bountiful types.

Not anymore.

Enough about that.

The only thing left in the world of Liz is Boys.

I say boys as in more than one.

Most of her friends are boys.

However... yes she is off the market.

One boy has her heart all twitter-pated.

Well we have made our home the "Oasis of Rose Park" for over a year and a half now.

The Oasis, lovingly named by our landlord, will be vacant soon.

It is a cute little home, little being the operative word.

We are buying a home again in Bountiful.

She is bending over with her kid in a stroller, and I'm not kidding, her hair is bigger than her bottom!

As a mom it is the hardest thing to sit back and watch your child in pain.

Physical pain is a little easier, it will end, get a band aid or something.

Emotional pain is whole other story,

there is no set end date.

However pain is growth.

You can't grow with out it.

That is why we are here, to learn and grow.

Never the less, it is difficult to watch.

I am sure that is how Heavenly Father seeing Jesus be crucified.

People come into our lives for a reason,

some are destined to stay,

some have a purpose and then move on.

Catherine filed her divorce papers yesterday.

But on the bright side.

She got her very own Cell phone plan.

A yellow car now sits in our driveway,

that she found and purchased on her own.

I have always wanted to be the normal Family.
You know the one.
The one who packs up the kids, goes to the airport and lands ready to go to
DISNEYLAND.
It's never happened.
I feel like the little boy in "the kid".
He looks at the grown up version of himself and states
"So, I'm forty, I'm not married, I don't fly jets, and I don't have a dog? I grow up to be a loser!".
I got the chance to refile my taxes, I have the money to do it!

I just need to figure out the most financially responsible way to do it.

They ask if I want to E-file?
I think to myself, well ok we can try, but last year it didn't work.
I push the button.
yup, they won't let me.
So I think to myself, what the heck is wrong????
They refer me to the IRS.
Oh no, I get to sit on hold for ever...
So they tell me that my Birthday is wrong and to call Social Security.
More waiting on hold...
Ahh, when I changed my name, eeons ago, when I got married someone put it in wrong!!
Can you believe that?
How fun for me.
I got to spend an hour and a half in a room full of strangers and screaming kids.
Did I say a stuffy crowded room? yeah it was.
Cat came with me, she got to change her name to her married name.

Reconnecting with people from the past can be so fun!
Facebook has been a wonderful tool for that.
How strange it to have people that at one time of your life were involved in the day to day and now it seems we have not talked in years, some as much as 20 years!
I believe and always have believed that people come in and out of ones life for a reason.
Example, one person who I have recently found on line was instrumental in my conversion to the LDS religion. His son and I dated, he and his wife were so kind to me at a point in my life when I really needed a "family example" to be around.
Another gal I found was not a super close friend in HS, she was in the "A" crowd and I was the wanna be. I used to think she did not like me, maybe she did I don't know. I can tell you this, I would not want my daughters to hang out with who I was then. I am such a changed person, but in some ways still the crazy Italian I have always been.
Another person I have been trying to find was a super close friend of mine while I was a nanny in Connecticut.I spent so much time with her and her family, again still trying to stay close to the family thing.
I have found High School friends, who I have not talked to since the 80's! These people have all been living life, getting married, having babies, going to college, starting careers, buying homes all the same stuff we all do. Life just has a way of intertwining our roots, and sometimes we meet up and sometimes we don't. I hope that this year I can say that I have made a difference in the lives of those around me, those I am reconnecting with, and those I have yet to meet.

Christmas stories happen in the most everyday places. I was part of one not long ago at the grocery store. I hope I never forget it, though the memory is bittersweet.

I had been shopping for almost an hour by the time I got to the checkout lines. My two youngest sons were with me, the four-year-old refusing to hold onto the cart, the two-year-old trying to climb out of the basket and jump down to play with his brother. Both got progressively whinier and louder as I tried to keep them under control, so I was looking for the fastest lane possible. I had two choices. In the first line were three customers, and they all had just a few purchases. In the second line was only one man, a harried young father with his own crying baby, but his cart was overflowing with groceries.

I quickly looked over the three-person line again. The woman in the front was very elderly, white haired and rail thin, and her hands were shaking as she tried unsuccessfully to unlatch her big purse. In the other line, the young father was throwing his food onto the conveyor belt with superhuman speed. I got in line behind him.

It was the right choice. I was able to start unloading my groceries before the elderly woman was even finished paying. My four-year-old was pulling candy from the shelf, and my little one was trying to help by lobbing cans of soup at me. I felt I couldn’t get out of the store fast enough.
And then, over the sound of the store’s cheery holiday music, I heard the checker in the other line talking loudly, too loudly. I glanced over as my hands kept working.

“No, I’m sorry,” the checker was almost shouting at the old woman, who didn’t seem to understand. “That card won’t work. You are past your limit. Do you have another way to pay?” The tiny old woman blinked at the checker with a confused expression. Not only were her hands shaking now, but her shoulders too. The teenage bagger rolled her eyes and sighed.
As I caught a soup can just before it hit my face, I thought to myself: “Boy, did I choose the right line! Those three are going to be there forever.” My mood was positively smug as my checker began scanning my food.

But the smiling woman directly in line behind the elderly lady had a different reaction. Quietly, with no fanfare, she moved to the older woman’s side and ran her own credit card through the reader.

“Merry Christmas,” she said softly, still smiling.
And then everyone was quiet. Even my rowdy children paused, feeling the change in the atmosphere.

It took a minute for the older woman to understand what had happened. The checker, her face thoughtful, hesitated with the receipt in her hand, not sure whom to give it to. The smiling woman took it and tucked it into the elderly woman’s bag.

“I can’t accept …” the older woman began to protest, with tears forming in her eyes.
The smiling woman interrupted her. “I can afford to do it. What I can’t afford is not to do it.”
“Let me help you out,” the suddenly respectful bagger insisted, taking the basket and also taking the old woman’s arm, the way she might have helped her own grandmother.

I watched the checker in my line pause before she pressed the total key to dab at the corner of her eyes with a tissue.

Paying for my groceries and gathering my children, I made it out of the store before the smiling woman. I had made the right choice of lanes, it seemed.
But as I walked out into the bright December sunshine, I was not thinking about my luck but about what I could not afford.

I could not afford my current, self-absorbed frame of mind.
I could not afford to have my children learn lessons of compassion only from strangers.
I could not afford to be so distant from the spirit of Christ at any time of the year—especially during this great season of giving.
I could not afford to let another stranger, another brother or sister, cross my path in need of help without doing something about it.

And that is why I hope never to forget the Christmas hero in the grocery store. The next time I have a chance to be that kind of a hero, I can’t afford to miss it.

I want to thank our friends and family who made this night important enough to be there to celebrate with us, it meant so much to the girls.

It is times like these when you realize how important family and friends are, times to celebrate together and make memories that last a lifetime.

It was a great success, three families there to celebrate love, marriage and family.

Two down... Two to go... they had better give me at least a 5 year break before I get to do this again!!!!

So last night the girls and I went to the 2:30 AM showing of TWILIGHT.

So worth EVERY second.

I thought that they did a great job!

I was nervous and didn't even allow myself to get all excited about it ahead of time, you know how disapointing books into movies can be.

I have had the worst head cold.
3 nights with no sleep.

Finally took some of the dreaded Nyquil.

You know that face that babies make when you give them something they don't like?
That's the face I make!
I have such a ginormous aversion to taking liquid cold medicine, I can't do it.
It makes me want to throw up.

Once when I was in Elementry shcool I did!

I was at Fred Meyer with my mother. We were getting a bridal shower gift. I had eaten mexican food for dinner.

I was coughing, mom gave me a Robitussen LOSENGE!

What were they thinking making such an awful thing!!!!

I remember saying " oh this is gross, I am gonna throw up".
She did not believe me.
Minutes later in the check out line.

So I took the huge Nyquil gel caps last night. No taste!

Dodge Caravan, RIP

Dodge Caravan, also known as the chick mobile and many other silly names, has passed on.

She was driving, 70MPH on the Legacy highway, when she came to a sudden STOP.

Her last few months being a great commuter van for Brad, hauling him and tools back and forth each day.

The early years were filled with car seats and girls, laughter and tears, motab and rap, french fries and diet coke.

She has been survived by Seebring, who is missing her already.

A Michigan woman and her family were vacationing in a small new England town where Paul Newman and his family often visited.

One Sunday morning, the woman got up early to take a long walk. After a brisk five-mile hike, she decided to treat herself to a double-dip chocolate ice cream cone.

There was only one other patron in the store.

So I have heard a rumor, from a great source, that Nick is out getting the ring and will do the official asking in the next few days!

The best part of this is the way he is planning on doing it.

For this to be effective you need some history...

Jess and Nick were really good friends for a year before they started to "like" each other and date. The whole group of kids hung at my house after school, during lunch ( yes I even caught them skipping class), and weekends quite often. They played b-ball, ate, watched movies, laughed, played x-box, ate, jumped on the trampoline, ate, did homework, oh yeah did I say eat? There was one item that sat on the front grass that became very sentimental, The Swing.

The other piece of information that is important to know is that during this year of hanging out, several of these kids paired off...

Well, back to the story.

Oh yeah, The Swing.

Jessica and Nick's first kiss was on that swing.

I am sure they have all kissed on that swing. Well, not Cat and Andrew. The swing has been over at Tasha's house since we moved to Seattle. Ha ha!

Rumor has it, Nick is going to bring the swing back to our old house, blindfold Jess and ask her there!!!!!! can you believe it?!! So romantic!!

So we have these great friends John and Amy.

They invite us to go to Snowbird with them overnight.

For those of you who are thinking Snowbird, huh?

Yes it is, it is a fabulous ski resort here in SLC.

Then they say we are going to go on a hike before we check in.

I'm thinking well I'm out of shape, but Amy is prego.

How hard can it be?

I have got such a talented friend!! Can I just tell you that she has more creative talent in her little pinkie than I do in my whole self!!

So I go over there this morning and got a crash course in Photoshop, I really needed that! I am so excited about what she taught me, I only hope that I can remember it all...

I wanted a wall in my kitchen to have a collage of black and white family images. We started with just some basic shots of each of us, then she did her magic!! I wanted them to look unique, not the typical black and white shots that everyone has. What she created is sooo super fantastic!!

Today my two girls who are in CAP had the opportunity to be in a memorial service for a great grandfather of a friend in their squadron.

What a great way to spend the morning after the 4th of July! So patriotic, so grounding.

Listening to Taps and seeing them hand the Flag over to the widow was so moving. We are so blessed to live in this country and have the freedoms that we enjoy.

I love all the men and women who have and still will serve our country so that I can have the freedoms each and everyday that I live for.

Encampment for Civil Air Patrol was last week, cat and Liz went!

This was Cat's turn to boss her little sister around and not get into trouble!!

Cat was on the Public Affairs Office/Command Staff.

That means she got to be big and important, not be in charge of little Cadets, and Take lots of pictures!!

Liz was a new Airman, and got to be bossed around by most everyone!

They were up at 4:30 everyday.

Liz didn't do anything with out asking first, anything!!

Liz did a perfect job on her Bed inspections ~ too bad she can't do that here!

Cat ate chips and candy ALL week!!

Cat actually left earlier and was gone for 10 days. Too long for MOM!!

They had a great time!!

I am soo proud of them, it is not easy to get through.

Liz just earned her first rank in CAP tonight!!!

CURRY ~ She is an Airman now!

She did 50 sit ups and 35 push ups, rand the mile in 10 minutes (she HATES running) and passed the test!!!!

I am so proud of her!

She is leaving Saturday for a week long Encampment, her big sister is on staff and can't wait to boss her around and not get in trouble for it!!

Last weekend we were blessed to be invited to a beautiful wedding.

Our oldest daughters brought dates, that was really cool.
It is always nice to see the boys all dressed up!

The Bride's dress was so amazing, simple and classically elegant.
The Groom was so handsome, and in love with his Bride.

One of my best friends was there, the Auntie of the Bride.
She and her hubby danced, I missed out on that. No dancing with Brad :(

The girls were able to re connect with old friends, and have so much fun!
Friends that have been there since they were still in diapers!

Brad and I saw a friend that we haven't seen since a missionary farewell years ago.
It doesn't matter, they are still friends.

What would we all do without friends.
How do we make friends.

The friends that we saw at this wedding are friends that we met while living in the U of U married student housing. Those are the friends you keep for life. I love these people. They are like family to me.

Love your friends, no one can ever say they have too many...

When we lived in Bountiful we had nights when there were so many teenagers in our house on a daily basis that I could hardly imagine it any other way.

We moved to Seattle. Things changed.

Gas prices are hurting everyone!

When my kids were little our fav family activity was to go for a drive, it is still high on the list of things to do. especially since I just got a cute little convertible that I want to drive all the time!!

I got this e-mail from one of my favorite Aunts in CA and I thought it was useful info, so I am sharing!!

DO SHARE THESE 7 TIPS WITH OTHERS!

I don't know what you are paying for gasoline where you live.... but here in California we are also paying higher, up to $3.50 per gallon and friends it won't be stopping there.

My line of work is in petroleum for about 31 years now, so here are some tricks to get more of your money's worth for every gallon.

Here at the Kinder Morgan Pipeline where I work in San Jose , CA we deliver about 4 million gallons in a 24-hour period thru the pipeline. One day is diesel the next day is jet fuel, and gasoline, regular and premium grades. We have 34-storage tanks here with a total capacity of 16,800,000 gallons.

1. Only buy or fill up your car or truck in the early morning when the ground temperature is still cold. Remember that all service stations have their storage tanks buried below ground. The colder the ground the more dense the gasoline, when it gets warmer gasoline expands, so buying in the afternoon or in the evening....your gallon is not exactly a gallon. In the petroleum business, the specific gravity and the temperature of the gasoline, diesel and jet fuel, ethanol and other petroleum products plays an important role. A 1-degree rise in temperature is a big deal for this business. But the service stations do not have temperature compensation at the pumps.

2. When you're filling up do not squeeze the trigger of the nozzle to a fast mode. If you look you will see that the trigger has three (3) stages: low, middle, and high. In slow mode you should be pumping on low speed, thereby minimizing the vapors that are created while you are pumping. All hoses at the pump have a vapor return. If you are pumping on the fast rate, some other liquid that goes to your tank becomes vapor. Those vapors are being sucked up and back into the underground storage tank so you're getting less worth for your money.

3. One of the most important tips is to fill up when your gas tank is HALF FULL or HALF EMPTY. The reason for this is, the more gas you have in your tank the less air occupying its empty space. Gasoline evaporates faster than you can imagine. Gasoline storage tanks have an internal floating roof. This roof serves as zero clearance between the gas and the atmosphere, so it minimizes the evaporation. 4. Another reminder, if there is a gasoline truck pumping into the storage tanks when you stop to buy gas, DO NOT fill up--most likely the gasoline is being stirred up as the gas is being delivered, and you might pick up some of the dirt that normally settles on the bottom.

5. WHERE TO BUY USA GAS, THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT TO KNOW. READ ON: Gas rationing in the 80s worked even though we grumbled about it. It might even be good for us! The Saudis are boycotting American goods. We should return the favor. An interesting thought is to boycott their GAS. Every time you fill up the car, you can avoid putting more money into the coffers of Saudi Arabia . Just buy from gas companies that don't import their oil from the Saudis. Nothing is more frustrating than the feeling that every time I fill-up the tank, I am sending my money to people who are trying to kill me, my family, and my friends. I thought it might be interesting for you to know which oil companies are the best to buy gas from and which major companies import Middle Eastern oil.

These companies import Middle Eastern oil:

Exxon /Mobil............... 130,082,000 barrels
Marathon/Speedway... 117,740,000 barrels

Amoco...........................62,231,000 barrels

Citgo gas is from South America , from a Dictator who hates Americans. If you do the math at $30/barrel, these imports amount to over $18 BILLION! (oil is now $90 - $100 a barrel)

BP/Phillips.............0 barrels

If you go to Sunoco.com, you will get a list of the station locations near you. All of this information is available from the Department of Energy and each is required to state where they get their oil and how much they are importing.

6. But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of gas buyers. It's really simple to do. Now, don't wimp out at this point.... keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!! I'm sending this note to about thirty people. If each of you send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300) ... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000) and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers!!!!!!! If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it.....THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!
